I have a passion for working in addiction and mental health, with a background that has allowed me to develop the skills to work effectively with my clients. With a decade in the field, I have worked in a variety of settings where I have been able to help people narrow their focus and achieve their goals. I work comfortably with anxiety and depression, bipolar disorder, substance use, and general life stressors including grief and relationship breakdowns. My practice offers individual, couple, and group counselling to help clients move towards success.

I am able to help clients identify the core issues that are upsetting them, and provide information and treatment to help clients feel better. I work with concrete goals, as well as more abstract outcomes like working towards helping clients like and appreciate the person who they are.

While therapy is a serious process, I believe that it can still be enjoyable. I have a friendly and approachable manner where my personality is present in each session. I hold evening and weekend hours to accommodate all schedules, and Skype sessions for those in Ontario are available. I also accept insurance for Greenshield and SSQ.

"Onward and upward" is my mantra.

I have had the privilege of supporting clients in working through obstacles, and transforming their lives for over 18 years. My focus is on helping clients identify what it important to them, and move towards a more rich and meaningful life. An essential part of this process is identifying what is "sticky" or getting in the way of change, and developing the skills to cope differently. I provide a safe space where one can observe their thoughts and emotions, without judgement. Don't let fear or apathy get in the way of moving forward.

Although I have specialized in mental health and addictions throughout my career, I consider any type of change management to be my area of speciality. Whether it be adapting to loss, making a change in behavior, relationship challenges or creating life balance.

I work with children and adults of all ages. I have some flexibility in appointment times and offer weekend appointments.

Be gentle with yourself. I believe that kindness starts from within and when we start to be kind to ourselves, our lives begin to change.  Counseling is a good place to learn how to grow, change and be kind. I believe that counseling should be an essential part of people’s lives – as a way to pause, reflect and grow.  I’ve had the privilege of helping people grow for almost ten years now and it has also helped me to grow in return. I’ve grown and taken something meaningful out of every person I have worked it. I take an eclectic approach to therapy, and believe that you get what you put in it – and sometimes starting counseling comes before the motivation to do it kicks in, and sometimes it is hard, but in the end the effort is worth it.

I have spent the last decade helping people make sense of their lives in many capacities. Through this time I have gained valuable experience working in hospitals, community agencies, primary care clinics and correctional institutions. I have completed my education in Social work, Social Policy and Psychology through Ryerson and McMaster Universities. In addition to my degrees I continue to be involved in ongoing education and training; I am trained and experienced working within multiple therapeutic modalities, and when I am not at my private practice I can be found working at our local Emergency Departments and Family Health Teams.

Though my expertise lives within child and family mental health, I see myself as a generalist and I am open and comfortable to working with all sorts of ages and issues from anger management, depression, and anxiety to trauma and childhood abuse.

When not working I can usually be found with my dog, Chloe, rowing with Leander on The Hamilton Harbour or shopping at the Hamilton Farmer’s Market.
